Cane and reeds for basson
The processing
The pieces are entirely hand manufactured starting from raw cane and  avoiding any overheating of the material to avoid any false reactivity. The first step is the "skimming" of the tubes ( which must correspond to certain characteristics ); the second one concerns  the work of gouging and profiling. Further  selection is done with the hardness tester and finally, as last step,  twist testing is made.
Further it is necessary to make the examination of the reactivity that must be positive. If the cane doesn't  exceed even one of these trials it will be deleted.
Thanks to Hardness tester, when you test and analyze the reactivity of the fibers you can immediately see what the consistency of the cane is like, so that it is possible to have answers in order to the use of the piece of material (Orchestra, Soloist ).
Finally the pieces of  the cane are marked one by one with a letter (A = a medium-hard, B = medium soft, C = Hard, E =  medium soft  with fibres structure difference) and with a number that goes from 12 to 23 (12 barrel is hard,  23 will be soft ).
So, with a good percentage of security, we are able to guarantee a product which corresponds to the bassonist's requests.
